Garrett is currently a second year student at The University
of Texas at Austin where he is a journalism major. He is from Marblehead,
Massachusetts, a small seacoast town about 18 miles north of Boston. Garrett is
the youngest of four children in his family; he has two sisters and a brother,
all of which are out of college and backing living in their hometown.
Garrett graduated from Marblehead High School in 2011 and
immediately knew that he wanted to pursue a career in sports journalism. Ever
since he was a child, he always had an interest in writing and sports and
combining those two for a career would be a dream come true for him. Currently
he is a Senior Sports Writer for The Daily Texan, the student newspaper at UT (check out his work here). During
his first semester he had the Women’s Golf beat before gaining the prominent
Softball beat in the spring while also doing many feature articles, including
some which were featured on the front page of the paper. This past year he held the Women's Basketball beat. Currently he is a columnist for the sports section.
While Garrett is hard working in is future career plans as a
journalist, he also enjoys many different activities. At UT, he was on the crew team for two years. He also enjoys playing and
watching sports such as hockey, lacrosse and golf with his peers for a nice
relaxing day. To him the most important thing in life is spending time with his
family. Since his town is right on the coast and many things are centered on the
ocean, he loves spending time on the water, whether its boating or swimming,
with his family and friends and just relaxing.
